Many people think that anyone can translate a Christian text; but the reality is completely different. In fact, not even, because you are a native speaker of a language, you are able to perform professional translation or translate a Christian text.
I have seen through my years of experience many ministries and customers, struggling with their translations because a brother or sister volunteered to perform the translation. No offense and not trying to diminish the heart for services our brothers and sisters have, but for a general text or something simple, yes, that would be acceptable.
However, if we are speaking about a professional Christian Translation, then, we will need a professional Christian Translator. Otherwise, the quality of the text would be low and normal, not conveying the real meaning of the texts and depth of the same.
Some ministries even hire a non-believer to translate their text and this is a huge mistake, they might even be professional translators, but if they are not Christians and versatile in the Bible, filled with the Holy Spirit, they will not be able to provide an excellent Christian translation. Others even use machine translation or google translation, which is good if you only want people to have a general idea of your thoughts and texts, but not to reach out souls for the kingdom.
We constantly receive ministries having their texts translated by volunteers, non-believers and machine translation, they want us to proofread their text, but the quality is too low, that we end up re-translating everything from scratch.
Experienced is not something that you can improvise, we at “Christian Translation” with over 14 years of experience; we are not improvising, our translations and the quality is our most important factor.
Allow me to explain it with a small thought “You are a doctor and you are qualified to treat patients. You studied for many years and you have gained knowledge through your studies and practices; thus, you know your thing. You know what you are doing. I am an engineer, I cannot start treating patients, I have not skills, I might have read some books or articles, I might even helped a doctor, but guess what “I am not a doctor”, therefore, I am not qualified to treat patients.”
Let us assume you are Christian, but you are not a professional Christian Translator, so, do you think you are fully equipped or have the right sets of skills to professionally translate a Christian text?
- You need to be a Christian
- You need to have experience in translating Christian Texts
- You need to have studied Theology or the Bible to acquire correct knowledge and proper terms
- You need to be filled with the Holy Spirit to transmit correct message to touch souls for the kingdom
- You need to be a native speaker of the target language to convey correct expressions, idioms and terms according to the original text
If you meet the above bullet points, then you are able to translate a Christian text. There are many websites nowadays offering Christian Translation; you just need to make sure whoever you hire to translate your Christian text can meet these points and beyond.
Let us remember that we are part of the Body of Christ and that we are here to assist you in spreading the Good News worldwide, therefore, everything we do, is as if it were for the Lord Himself.
